To spread awareness within the student and teacher population, AAMHI created slideshows that were presented to all 50K+ students at schools in MoCo, a district with a significant Asian American population. AAMHI hopes to present these in more schools across the country. The presentations contained descriptions of the problem with the model minority myth, how students may be perpetuating it without meaning to, and how we can work towards solving the problem and alleviating the struggles that Asian American students face. Within the lesson plan, we include a community circle to give all students a chance to share their experience with stereotyping, elevating voices that were silenced for years. The hope is that this will serve as a behavioral nudge - that students and teachers will keep these important lessons in mind before stereotyping Asian American students.
