We held our first annual Model Minority Myth Panel for AAPI Month in 2023. With expert panelists including BoE member Julie Yang, representatives from AALEAD and LEAP, and Asian American therapists and professors, we presented to over 150+ registrants across MoCo. In a 90+ minute event, the panelists delved into the model minority myth and strategies to counter it. After AAMHI made pamphlets for students, presentations for teachers, and implemented training for counselors, we curated this panel with parents as a target audience in mind. Parental attitudes and behaviors are often the root of the model minority myth issues that students face, so educating them and increasing awareness is critical to alleviating the struggles.
